"The Fundamentals of Musical Thinking"

The original version of "The Fundamentals of Musical Thinking", written by the leading musicologist in Central Europe, Prof. Dr. Jozef Kresanek, Dr.Sc. was published in 1977 in Bratislava, Slovakia, and received the State Prize. The 12 chapters lead us through the history of musical thinking, and the origin and development of sonoristics, dynamism, and thematics (the three main areas of musical thinking).

Biography: In 1940-1944 Prof. Dr. Jozef Kresanek worked in Matica Slovenska in the city of Martin - devoting to old collections of folk songs and the collection of Prof. Plicka. In 1944-1986, he lectured at and was a chairman of the Department of Musicology at the Philosophic Faculty of the University of Komensky in Bratislava.
His knowledge of folk songs was reflected in the book "Slovak Folk Song From the Standpoint of Music" (publ. 1951) in Bratislava. This study posed the basis for the Slovak etno-musicology.
An extensive scientific publication activity (106 titles) appeared in the periodical "Musicologika Slovaca" in 1978.
